Entering first grade is a significant milestone for both the child and the entire family. Many parents express concerns about their child’s transition from the nurturing environment of kindergarten to the more independent and disciplined setting of first grade, where they are introduced to elementary school knowledge.

It’s common for children to experience a sense of “shock” and confusion when starting first grade, which can significantly impact their integration process and knowledge acquisition.

To help children feel confident and prepared for this important transition, they greatly benefit from an adaptation period known as the International Preschool System. This system acts as a suitable stepping stone, effectively aiding in the transition process from kindergarten to elementary school.

In recent years, the International Preschool System has gained attention from developed countries and international schools, becoming highly regarded for its effectiveness in preparing children for the rigors of elementary education.

The International Preschool System at Alaska Preschool appears to offer a well-rounded approach to early childhood education, emphasizing bilingual language acquisition and foundational skills. The initiation stage’s focus on English vocabulary, critical thinking, and reasoning complements the acceleration stage’s emphasis on reading, mathematical thinking, and introduction to the Vietnamese language. This holistic approach seems designed to prepare children for a successful transition to first grade.

What makes the International Preschool System special?

  1. Children at our school learn exclusively in English, following a curriculum based on American textbooks for core subjects such as Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Our learning approach is carefully designed to gradually introduce children to elementary school methods, instilling confidence as they approach first grade.
  2. We emphasize developing life skills for kindergarten-aged children, including self-care and communication, while also preparing elementary school-aged children with skills such as independence, critical thinking, and self-learning awareness
  3. Our curriculum also nurtures children’s artistic talents through dedicated art and music activities and includes daily outdoor activities incorporating physical exercise.
  4. As part of our program, children enter an acceleration stage that includes an hour of Vietnamese language and mathematical thinking lessons each day, taught in Vietnamese.
  5. We also organize monthly themed events and field trips, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, Halloween, Christmas, and New Year, allowing children to showcase their talents on stage.
  6. Our teaching staff includes Vietnamese teachers for core subjects, English teachers, and Preschool teachers, providing children with a well-rounded and enriching educational experience
  7. Additionally, children have the opportunity to continue their education at the Bilingual Elementary School within our system.
