ALASKA ACADEMY: WHICH TEAM LEADS IN THE FINAL ROUND OF THE “SPELLING BEE”?

After the preliminary rounds held in the classrooms, on the morning of January 13, 2025, representatives from 21 classes (3 outstanding students from each class) eagerly and confidently participated in the FINAL ROUND of the SPELLING BEE – ENGLISH FESTIVAL 2024 – at Alaska International Primary School.

The FINAL ROUND of the SPELLING BEE is divided into 3 levels, including:

⁃ Vocabulary difficulty of 1-2 syllables (Grade 1)

⁃ Vocabulary difficulty of 1-2-3 syllables (Grades 2-3)

⁃ Vocabulary difficulty of 2-3-4 syllables (Grades 4-5)

At each level, the competing teams had to go through 3 parts: The Warm-up (listening, spelling, and repeating), The Face-off (arranging letters to form meaningful words based on the question), and The Finish Line (synonyms/antonyms).

At the end of the FINAL ROUND of the SPELLING BEE, the judges selected 5 outstanding teams to win First Prize. Congratulations to:

First Prize Grade 1: Class 1A3

First Prize Grade 2: Class 2A2

First Prize Grade 3: Class 3A2

First Prize Grade 4: Class 4A1

First Prize Grade 5: Class 5A3

The remaining 16 teams received the “Smart Bee” award.

Thank you to the competing teams with intelligent, agile, and hardworking Alaskids. We hope that, along with the English program taught in class, competitions like the ENGLISH FESTIVAL will help the children become more confident and proactive in using English as a second language from a young age.

The Spelling Bee has been organized by Alaska for many years as part of the annual ENGLISH FESTIVAL. This is not just a simple spelling competition that helps Alaskids understand the meaning and origin of words, but also enhances their memory and language thinking skills; thus helping them improve their language skills and expand their vocabulary.
