? In the unfortunate event that a child is trapped in a car, their ability to self-rescue becomes crucial, as first responders may not be able to reach them immediately. Recognizing this importance, Alaska Academy has taken the initiative to equip its young students with the necessary skills to escape from a parked car in case they are ever left unattended.

? Alaska Preschool uses its own transportation vehicles as training grounds to teach children essential escape techniques. The training focuses on three simple yet vital steps:
techniques.
1. Continuously honk the car horn to attract attention from passersby. Even if the car is turned off, the horn can still function using power directly from the battery.
2. Press the hazard lights button, typically located near the car’s radio or video screen. These lights will continue to flash even if the car is turned off and the keys are removed.
3. Utilize the emergency escape hammer with a pointed tip, typically mounted on the car’s sidewall, to break a window.
Parents are encouraged to reinforce these three escape techniques with their children daily, and to remind them to stay calm and remember the instructions in case they find themselves in such a situation. Additionally, children are encouraged to observe their surroundings and inform teachers if they notice a classmate falling asleep or becoming engrossed in play and failing to exit the vehicle, as this simple act could potentially save their friend from harm.
By providing this comprehensive training, Alaska Academy aims to empower its students with the skills and knowledge necessary to protect themselves and others in the event of being left unattended in a vehicle.
