ALASKA ACADEMY: STEM CLASS “SIMPLE ELECTRIC CIRCUITS” – LIGHTING UP THE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL
While it’s easy to buy a Mid-Autumn lantern online or at a store to join the procession with friends, imagine the special feeling of making one with your own hands!
To answer this question, Teacher Mai Thi Thanh Thuy dedicated two full STEM lessons on “Simple Electric Circuits” to guide the Alaskids of Class 5A4. They used their Science knowledge to design and create their own beautiful Mid-Autumn lanterns.
Integrating knowledge from both Science and Technology, Ms. Thuy helped the Alaskids distinguish between conductors and insulators and understand the structure and function of a lighting circuit.
The lesson became more engaging and sparked even greater curiosity when Ms. Thuy and the Alaskids worked together to complete their light-up Mid-Autumn lanterns, all based on the scientific knowledge they had just acquired.
Science is neither abstract nor dry when it’s connected to the world around us and applied to real life. The Science lesson on “Simple Electric Circuits,” filled with the laughter of Class 5A4 today, is a perfect testament to this!
Now, we invite parents and teachers to see how excited the Alaskids of Class 5A4 were to “light up” the full moon night with their unique, one-of-a-kind Mid-Autumn lanterns!
