🔬 Today, the 3rd and 4th grade classrooms at Alaska Academy were more lively than usual thanks to the visit from the Society of Open Science (SOS) Club – from Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
🔬 Using only simple tools (blowtorch, gas canister, water pipe, plastic bottle, tie, pump, speaker…) and readily available materials (glucose, sulfuric acid, potassium permanganate, sodium polyacrylate, alcohol, boric acid…), the students from Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted demonstrated and guided the Alaskids in performing many fascinating experiments: from creating a cloud as white as cotton in a plastic bottle, a magical and beautiful green flame, to an interesting whoosh sound, a loud bang, a bright spot…
🔬 After each experiment, the high school students also provided detailed explanations to help the Alaskids understand the reasons behind the physical and chemical phenomena they had just observed, thereby helping them recognize and discover many interesting things when learning and applying science.
For the Alaskids, although they study science regularly and are familiar with many scientific experiments, the appearance of the students from the Society of Open Science Club still made them extremely excited. Therefore, the exchange was not only filled with “oohs” and “aahs” of surprise, but also lots of laughter and eyes full of curiosity and wonder.
