📍 For the 2024–2025 school year, Alaska Academy began using Collins resources aligned with the Cambridge curriculum..
✏️ By adopting the reputable curriculum from Collins Publishing, Alaska aims to provide students with engaging learning experiences and discoveries through effective teaching methods and a wealth of related resources.
✏️With the Collins curriculum, after each topic that encompasses a rich and captivating body of knowledge, Alaskids will participate in a STEM project in the school’s LAB. By carrying out these projects, students will not only deepen their understanding of the scientific concepts they have learned, but also apply this knowledge to solve real-world problems.
✏️ One example of these exciting projects is the “Making a Spectroscope from Recycled Materials” project that the first-grade students are working on this week. After a series of lessons on the topic of Humans, which includes discussions about the senses, the students were able to use old CDs, toilet paper rolls, colored paper, tape, and scissors to create a spectroscope—a device that plays an important role in research, experiments, and surveys.
✏️ The most exciting moment came when the students looked through the spectroscope and observed how the white light they see every day is separated into different colors according to their wavelengths: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet—the same colors that make up the rainbow they have seen in the sky.
