🌈 The concept of a skatepark is often seen in movies, and some children have even had the chance to experience it firsthand. However, with the STEM Project “Design a Skatepark,” third-grade students at Alaska Academy have had a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with their classmates to design and build a model skatepark.
🌈 Using familiar and eco-friendly materials such as cardboard, colored paper, tape, and marbles, along with their creativity and rich imaginations, the third-grade students constructed various skatepark models with diverse structures and a wide range of vibrant colors.
🌈 While the skatepark models may appear simple, ensuring the marbles can roll from one end to the other requires the students to apply many concepts they have learned in class. In the LAB room, by observing the movement of the marbles, the students listened attentively as their teacher explained how factors such as friction, different materials, and surface textures influence the speed of objects.
🌈 The joyful laughter of the children as they engaged with the moving marbles and their enthusiasm during their presentations about the “Design a Skatepark” project highlights the delightful nature of learning for young students. This experience has stimulated their curiosity and encouraged the development of their creative spirits.
